Omg. How amazing! I love this cultural exchange where local people show me their lives and I say them abouth Czech and Europe….
This day it was sing-sing and mumu (pork which is cooked underground with hot stones and banana leaves). Women cooked for us, vegetable in the pots on the fire and they prepared also chicken and care about mumu.
We went with girls to the sightseing trip around the village with Stefa. What did we actually see on this trip? Visiting old men from the clan who told us stories about their history. I love it. I love when older people say me some interesting things or they share with me their experience. We met Pater Isac, he was 83 years old and one of the builder of this village. He has 4 brothers who live together with their kids. Isac has six sons and two doughters. When kids come to visit Isac I guess that there are around 30 heads? Pretty cool.
After king’s dinner it was sing-sing in traditional costumes. It was amaizing! At the beginning people jumped in a circle and they started to sing and dance. They dance? Yes, but in first case it didnť look like dancing, they were sitting and only shaking their heads with paradise head bells. In half an hour their boss asked us if we would like to join them and of course most of us wanted. Native people lended us head bells and they painted our face with some nature colour and then we were sing sing.
After a while there was a line a boy who was sitting near a girl, continued by another boy and a girl,a boy and a girl. The point of this tradition is that a boy should choose a girl as the future woman and he dances with her and in the morning they should disappear somewhere together and in some time they may have wedding. In this day it was different, because natives had normal clother under national clothes (almost everyone) and thay did sing-sing only for us…
I think it was interesting and it took approximately 2 hours and than I was thirsty and I left them and joined with cup of water some group of sitting and dancing people. We spoke together quite a lot. It was interesting and it was plesure for me when they said that they liked to speak with me. According to them in the future they can tell their kids that they spoke with a white girl. They also gave me bilums for a memory to them. That´s why I have 4 bilums from this village as donate gifts…
Love them and I will miss them, this is my life. I don’t know what I will do in the future but I need kind people for my survival. When you are nice and friendly to other people I believe that kidness and friendliness will be around you…
